Son of Our Blood (Aaron's Kiss #12) by Kathi S. Barton Book Review

Mac McManus has everything going for him, but he doesn’t see it that way. All he sees is his limitations. Like his father, Aaron, he is a vampire—forced into the darkness and to sustain himself on blood. He hates himself for what he has become and would rather meet the sun than remain immortal as a vampire or drink from another. It’s not anything he wants his family to know about.

He strikes a bargain with his aunt, the Queen, to get what he wants—an end to his suffering. In the bargain he must save a woman, his mate, from another vampire, Zachariah Roberts, a murdering fiend that has been plaguing Mac’s dreams since he turned. But the woman he must save, the one the Queen is making him save has turned out to be more than he bargained for. More than he ever wanted.

Brandi Daniel, Andi to her friends, has been on the run for years. Never staying in any one place long, she has managed to stay just one step ahead of her step-father—a cruel man with a nasty temper. Andi has a talent of her own. She can move things with her mind and her step-father thinks he can sell her to a science lab for a quick buck.

Andi is caught squatting on Bradley Wolf’s land and is given an ultimatum. She can work off the debt or spend a few days in jail. She figures she’ll make a quick buck and leave before her step-father finds her. She has learned to rely only on herself and isn’t bargaining for a gorgeous overbearing vampire, Mac, stepping in and dictating her every move. A man who can and will fulfill her every fantasy and desire...

Mac’s dreams of Zachariah have gotten worse and he knows that Andi is foretold to be one of his victims, but the danged woman won’t stay put. The entire Kiss is banding together to keep Andi safe and it pisses her off in the process. Will an entire Kiss of vampires and an entire pack of werewolves be enough to protect one stubborn human? Has Mac found a new purpose in life? Will either of them live long enough to find out?

My Review

5 of 5 Vampire Kisses

Sons Of Our Blood is book 12 in the Aaron's Kiss series and I have to say that I did not read the previous 11 books but I really enjoyed and dare I say loved this book. I will have to read the previous books to really get up to speed but this book as a stand alone is good. I was able to follow the characters and see what was going on.

This is Mac's story and what a story it is. Mac is a Vampire just like his father only he does not want to be. What you say... yes you heard me Mac does not want to be a vampire . He does not like the fact that he has to be in the dark and drink blood constantly to survive. He would rather meet the sun then be a vampire. This of course caught my attention and the more I read about Mac the more I could see where he was coming from. But always looking for a way out Mac decides he will talk to his aunt the queen and see if she can help him out. The queen agrees to help him out on one condition. Mac must free and save his mate.

At first Mac is worried because he really does not know anything about this supposed mate he has but the more he finds out about her the more intrigued he is with her. Only thing is his mate Andi is on the run from Zachariah who is a ruthless vampire and wants Andi for himself. As Mac is searching for Andi she manages to get herself into trouble and gets caught trespassing on Bradley Wolf's property. Bradley gives Andi two choices she can either work her transgression off for him or she can go to jail. Andi chooses to work for him instead. Mac finally being able to catch up with Andi wants to help her but he finds she is strong and wants no help from anyone.

What is Mac to do? Can he save Andi? Will the vampire kisses and the werewolves be able to keep Andi safe? Will Andi let Mac in? Will Zachariah finally get what he wants? This is such a must read story that you will not even realize when you are done with the book because it goes by so fast! Happy Reading :)

Excerpt #4

Jamie grunted contentedly and snuggled in a bit closer. Was he conscious? Could he possibly know whom he was holding in his arms? Maybe he had been completely aware of his actions this whole time. Had he been as drunk as I? I couldn’t remember. Was he a good guy who made a mistake or a jerk who liked to cheat on his fiancée by taking stupid, drunk girls home and screwing them?

I suddenly felt disgustingly dirty. Why had I been so easy? Slut girl: give her a drink and watch her spread her legs. Except, that wasn’t me at all. Hell, I could count the guys I’d slept with on one hand and still have a thumb left over. What in the world had possessed me to drunkenly hook up with a guy I barely knew who was getting married in a few months?

I thought of Jen, sound asleep in LA, trusting that her fiancé was alone in his bed too and not curled up, buck naked, in another woman’s arms. She trusted him, and I’d helped him betray that trust. My stomach rolled, and not just from the hangover. I needed to get up. Now.

I squirmed out from under Jamie and vacated the bed. Scanning the room, I found a pair of boxer shorts and an old t-shirt strewn on the floor. After donning the ensemble, I walked to the bathroom.

Staring in the mirror wasn’t pretty. I looked like hell on toast. Black circles under my puffy eyes. Makeup smeared. Bleh.

I brushed my teeth and washed my face and then hit the kitchen to make eggs. What the hell, right? Even the “other woman” needed to eat a balanced Atkins breakfast, and maybe it would get my mind off things at the very least. I tried to swallow down the guilt, but it determinedly rose like bile to my throat. The smell of the scrambled eggs only served to nauseate me further.

“Maddy?” a sleepy voice behind me said a few minutes later. I whirled around. Jamie stood in the doorway, deliciously rumpled. He’d donned his blue jeans but no shirt. I scolded my eyes for straying a second too long on his perfectly sculpted chest. After all, I’d already done more than my share of sampling the forbidden goods already. Time to get my mind out of the gutter and behave like a responsible human being.

I realized my heart was pounding in my chest as I waited for what he’d say next. Then I remembered my manners.

“Do you want some eggs?”

“Maddy, I’ve got to ask you . . .” He raked a hand through his mussed hair in a way that made me pretty sure his question wasn’t whether the eggs came from cage-free chickens.

“Yes?” Cool, calm, collected. Whatever he wanted to ask me, I’d be okay with it.

“I had a lot to drink last night and I wasn’t sure . . . Well I woke up and . . .” He looked around the apartment. “Are we at your place?”

“Yeah, ” I said quietly. He didn’t even remember agreeing to come here. Guess that answered my question about his level of sobriety.

“Oh. Right. And I woke up in . . .” He pointed vaguely toward the bedroom. “. . . and I didn’t know . . .”

“You want to know if we had sex.” I spelled it out, shocked at how clear and cold my voice sounded.

“Y-yeah.” His face reddened at my bluntness. He hadn’t been so shy last night.

“I don’t know, Jamie. I don’t remember either. But I woke up in my bed naked. And you were naked next to me. So I’d say chances are pretty darn good.” I realized I sounded angry. Hurt. Don’t let him see that you care.

Will the fates allow Nissa and Levi to be together? And even if they do, will Levi believe Nissa once she reveals the truth?

My Review

5 of 5 Fairy Godmothers

First I want to say that I had the opportunity to read Nissa early on. It took me by surprise because I had just finished Bethany's Friends series and I was blown away with that series. So when I found out Nissa was about Fairies I said wow what a change from her usual writing but I will give it a go and I am so so glad I did. Bethany has this way of writing things that will cling to your heart and stay with you long after you have read it. She has these incredible messages hidden in every story that jumps out at you when you least expect it. With Nissa this is a story about finding ones self, bullying, and love. Bullying is such a controversial subject when someone writes about it but Bethany did a great job of giving a character that learns to stand up for herself in the end against these bullies.

Nissa for over 900 years has wanted to be a good Fairy Godmother. She will finally get her first assignment and when she does she is not sure she can do it because she will have to go live as a teenage human. HOLY COW who wants that right? Well if Nissa wants to be the best fairy she will have to help out Vicky who is being bullied and has been for a long time. As if things could not get any worse for Nissa while she is trying to help out Vicky she feels her soul mate is close and when she sees Levi she is struck because he is her soul mate with one problem. He is human.

As Nissa navigates through helping Vicky with bullying and teaching her to stand up for herself she is struggling with her love for Levi. Once a fairy finds their soul mate they are instantly attracted to one another and need to be near each other. But Nissa needs to concentrate on her assignment. Will she be able to help Vicky out? Will Vicky stand up to these bullies? What will Nissa and Levi do? Will Levi want to be with her once he finds out what she is? This is such a heart warming book and a must read for everyone! I loved the ending because it was very different from what I thought would happen in a very good way.

Xpresso Presents A Book Blitz For Possession by S.K. Falls Series: Fevered Souls, #1

Possession by S.K. Falls
Series: Fevered Souls, #1
Publication date: April 22nd 2013
Genre: NA Paranormal

Synopsis:
After I left for college, I thought I’d never see Eden again. But I found myself headed back four years later, destitute and unable to find a job anywhere else. Still, I was adamant nothing would keep me there for long.

Then I met the intoxicating Dax Allard. Copper-colored eyes, skin that emanated an exceptional heat, and a strange “dog” at his side… I was drunk on him.

But Dax’s past was darker than mine, teeming with ancient secrets. Falling for him could cost me my life.

I had two choices: walk away or deal with the perilous consequences.

It was no choice at all.

This is the first episode of a serial novel, and runs around 50 pages or 12,000 words.

Goodreads:

Excerpt from Possession (Fevered Souls #1), by S.K. Falls:

Blood rushed to my face at his tone. “What…” I swallowed. There was no way I’d ask this if I wasn’t hopped up on whatever they’d given me, but I wanted to know. “Have I offended you in some way?”

For a moment, Dax stared at me, confusion coloring every facial feature. When understanding seeped in, his eyes widened. Seemingly unconsciously, he took a step closer to me. In spite of the giant fireplace roaring just a few feet away, I could feel his body heat waft out toward me. He was like a walking furnace. “You think…you’ve offended me?” He actually sounded astounded.

I stared up into his copper gaze, the effects of the drugs somehow melting away. I was completely hypnotized. There was no way I could’ve lied to him, not even if my life had depended on it right then. Nothing else existed in that moment but the two of us—Oscar, the room, even what had just happened to me in the forest fell away.

In a quiet voice, I said, “You act like I’m the most abhorrent person you’ve ever met. You refuse to come near me. And you don’t want me working for you. Why else would that be?” Ridiculously, I felt a lump in my throat, simply by speaking of his rejection.

A muscle tensed in Dax’s jaw, as if he was physically biting back what he wanted to say. His fists tensed into balls, thick veins standing up on his arms. “Ms. Beaumont,” he finally said. His quiet voice held a hint of a tremor. “Believe me when I tell you I am not in the least… offended by you.” He took a deep breath. “It pains me that you think so.”

“Then…then what is it?” I asked, still gazing into his eyes.

But he shook his head.

“Another secret,” I muttered. “You seem to have so many.”

He smirked, his gorgeous face transforming into something hard and bitter as he looked away, toward the windows and the woods outside. “Yes. And none of them are good. It’d be in your best interests to stay away.”

The fire crackled. I realized that sometime during our conversation, Oscar had slipped away. I looked down at my hands, fisted in the blanket. “What if…what if I don’t want to stay away?”

I couldn’t believe I was saying the words out loud. I had just met this man. But somehow I knew that he felt exactly the way I felt. I was beginning to suspect it was the reason he was so…strange around me. There was something between us that eschewed the traditional hesitant, “play it cool” attitude normal guys and girls our age displayed before they got to know each other.

I expected him to become furious or stalk away. It surprised me when he sighed deeply instead. “Then we’re in trouble,” he said, his voice barely a rumble. “Because I don’t want you to stay away either.”

Dream Cast for Possession:

I’m usually pretty bad at this game because I don’t watch a lot of movies or TV (we don’t even have cable at my house, and haven’t for the past eight or so years). But once I poked around online, I was able to make some decisions pretty quickly. These are the people I think would make really great Possession characters:
Cara Beaumont would have to be played by Amanda Seyfried. I think she has the right kind of wide-eyed look that I imagine on Cara.
Dax Allard would be played by James Franco. I love his look—it’s dangerous and alluring at the same time. On the other hand, the model on the cover makes a pretty perfect Dax, too.
Oscar DuBois would be played by Liam Neeson. He makes a distinguished-looking older man, I think.
Grace Beaumont, Cara’s mom, would have to be played by Ellen Barkin.

Where Did the Idea for Possession Come From?

The idea for Possession came to me really atypically. Usually I think of a character—generally female—and know, instantly, a lot about her personality. But with Possession, I actually had this ravenous need to read about a male demon character. I’d never read a book about a character exactly like the one in my head, and I asked around to my other bibliophile friends to see if they had read anything like what I wanted. I got some great recommendations, but nothing quite fit the bill.

So then I began to wonder if I could write this male character. It was a pretty daunting challenge because (a) I’d never written a romance before and (b) I’d never written in the serial format. But when, after weeks, the idea wouldn’t let go, I knew I had to try.

So far it’s been a blast! I’ve been having so much fun getting to know the characters and listening as they unveil the story for me.
AUTHOR BIO:
A huge fan of spooky stuff and shoes, I enjoy alternately hitting up the outlet malls and historic graveyards in Charleston, SC where I live and imbibe coffee. My husband and two small children seem not to mind when I hastily scribble novel lines on stray limbs in the absence of notepads.
Since no writer’s biography is complete without mention of her menagerie of animals, you should know I have one dog that doubles as a footstool, a second that functions as a vacuum cleaner, and a cat that ensures I never forget that my hands are, first and foremost, for pouring cat food.

Happy Release Day For Emancipating Andie by Priscilla Glenn

Title: Emancipating Andie
Author: Priscilla Glenn
Release date: April 27, 2013
Age Group: Adult
Genre: Contemporary Romance

Event organized by: AToMR Tours

Amazon:

Ever since the one time Andie Weber threw caution to the wind - and paid the price for it - she’s learned that it’s safer and smarter to live life playing by the rules. Now she’s got a great apartment, a steady job, and a wonderful boyfriend in Colin; he’s sweet, stable, and essentially perfect – except maybe for the fact that his best friend is Chase.

Chase McGuire lives his carefree, unstructured life strictly for himself. Dripping sarcasm and oozing wit, he refuses to censor his feelings or opinions for anyone, making no apologies for either and wearing his abrasiveness like a badge of honor. No one has ever gotten under Andie’s skin the way Chase does – and vice versa.

So when Andie and Chase find themselves forced to take a two-day road trip together, they are already dreading an inevitable all-out war. But as the trip progresses, and the undeniable friction that has always defined their relationship slowly begins to wear away their preconceived notions of each other, Andie and Chase discover they both have a lot to learn about life, courage, happiness, and the age-old battle between logic and love.

Guest Post #1

Andie and Chase

Back when I was in the early stages of writing Emancipating Andie, I was having a conversation with one of my non-author friends about how the first few chapters of a novel always take me the longest to write. When she asked me why, I said, “Because I don’t know the characters yet.” I remember how thrown she was by that answer. “I don’t get it. How are you writing about them, then? Don’t you plan all that out ahead of time?”

The truth is, I don’t. I don’t know if this is how all authors work, but for me, when I begin a story, it is with a very basic concept. A general idea of who my characters are and what’s going to happen to them. When I began Emancipating Andie, I knew that Andie was uptight and a “rule-follower.” I knew that Chase was fun, snarky, and a bit of an a-hole. I knew that they were going to be forced to co-exist with each other, and that when they were together, sparks would fly (both good and bad). And that was it. I didn’t know why she was so uptight. I didn’t know why Chase was rough around the edges. Not until I put them in that car and they started talking to each other and letting their guards down.

It’s somewhat difficult to explain, and I’m sure it makes me sound a bit crazy, but there are these moments when I’m writing, these little epiphanies, where the characters reveal themselves to me. I will be writing a scene, and suddenly I just know that “he would say this” or “she would do that,” and I think, “Of course!” The more that happens, the closer I become to them, and the easier it is to write them. As it turns out, Andie is actually funny and brave. And Chase? He’s talented and extremely profound. I didn’t know that about them when I started.

So I hope the ride you take as a reader is similar to the one I took as an author. I hope you’re eager to learn about Andie and Chase, that you’re pleased/surprised/thrilled/swooning as they start revealing themselves to you, and that by the end of their story, you love them as much as I do.

A woman afraid to surrender to love.

Two lives that are about to cross...and secrets laid bare.

My Review

5 of 5 Jett and Brooke

First I want to say that I am so dam pissed at myself for not reading this book sooner. Holy Jett this book was incredible. I could not put it down and when my eyes were closing I would force them open so I could keep reading. I eventually had to put it down but I picked it back up this morning and I have to say that I absolutely love J.C. and I need need book like I need air to breathe. I mean who would not love a strong alpha male and a strong alpha female as characters but what makes this book and did it for me was the flow of the book and the development of characters. I have been reading a lot of NA books and I loved most of them I found that some did not have the flow like I needed.

Choppy reading is for the birds dude I want a book where I can get into it and I can picture the characters and even relate to them with a song and by the way Rhianna's Stay is Jett and Brooke's song.

The words: All along it was a fever

A cold sweat hot-headed believer

I threw my hands in the air, said, "Show me something,"

He said, "If you dare come a little closer."

Round and around and around and around we go

Oh now tell me now tell me now tell me now you know

Not really sure how to feel about it.

Something in the way you move

Makes me feel like I can't live without you.

It takes me all the way.

I want you to stay

It's not much of a life you're living

It's not just something you take – it's given

Ooh the reason I hold on

Ooh cause I need this hole gone

Funny you're the broken one but I'm the only one who needed saving

Cause when you never see the light it's hard to know which one of us is caving

This song sums up so much for these two who happened to meet and fall in love but circumstances be what they are come in between them and choices and decisions are made and once they are made there is no turning back. For Jett he is smart, gorgeous and gets what ever he wants. He wants a property but it seems that the owner does not want to sell. The owner rather save the property and pass it on to his family. Jett is determined to get that property at any cost but what he wasn't expecting was falling in love with the heir to that property. For Brooke she has had lot's of tragedy in her life and she keeps her heart and life closed off to everyone so she does not get hurt. Her dream job is to be a top Realtor and work for the top firm but she gets sidetracked by another company who has offered her a job. As she starts her new job she finds out she will be going to Italy to seal a deal that the company she works for is trying to broker.

Then Brooke comes home and she finds out that a law firm has been searching for he rand they tell her she has inherited some property but when she realizes which one it is it will change Brooke and Jetts relationship and Brooke will get stronger than she has ever been and does something she never thought she would do but it is for the best interest of both parties. This book has it's highs and lows and keeps you on your toes and the ending from Jetts perspective I just dam near died! I said what a freaking fool what was he thinking and what the hell is up with this estate that everyone wants. Man I have so many questions June can't come fast enough because I am dying to read the second book.
Quotes from Surrender Your Love

“I had never seen eyes like his. Dark green. Smoldering. Ready to undress a woman with a single glance.”

“Tragedy may hit all of us in one way or another, but fate's not our enemy, Brooke. We are. By locking yourself away from the world, you choose your own mistakes and destroy any chance of ever finding happiness. You cannot control life, but you can chose who you are and what you make of it.”

“Why do you want me?" I asked, suppressing the trembling of my voice. "I’m strange, definitely not perfect, and fucked up. Actually, a lot of the latter.”
“Perfect is boring and overrated.” He smiled that lopsided grin of his that made my lower abdomen twist and curl with delicious desire. “I’m looking for sexy, fun, kind, and honest. And you tick all the right boxes, Brooke.”

“Falling in love often happens at the wrong time, in the wrong place, with the wrong person.”

“Maybe someday, I'd find someone who'd prove he really loved me. Someone who'd hold me rather than let me fall. Someone who'd never lie to me.”

“To me, love was a drug. Jett was my drug.”

“This isn’t working, Brooke. Don’t get me wrong, the sex is amazing. But it’s turning into something else, and I need to know where I’m standing. I need to know whether we’ll ever be together.”
