Struck by Jennifer Bosworth Book Review

Struck
Mia Price is a lightning addict. She’s survived countless strikes, but her craving to connect to the energy in storms endangers her life and the lives of those around her.

Los Angeles, where lightning rarely strikes, is one of the few places Mia feels safe from her addiction. But when an earthquake devastates the city, her haven is transformed into a minefield of chaos and danger. The beaches become massive tent cities. Downtown is a crumbling wasteland, where a traveling party moves to a different empty building each night, the revelers drawn to the destruction by a force they cannot deny. Two warring cults rise to power, and both see Mia as the key to their opposing doomsday prophecies. They believe she has a connection to the freak electrical storm that caused the quake, and to the far more devastating storm that is yet to come.

Mia wants to trust the enigmatic and alluring Jeremy when he promises to protect her, but she fears he isn’t who he claims to be. In the end, the passion and power that brought them together could be their downfall. When the final disaster strikes, Mia must risk unleashing the full horror of her strength to save the people she loves, or lose everything.

MY REVIEW

Struck was a book that STRUCK ME! There were a few things that drew this book to me. First was the amazing cover of a girl standing in the middle of a storm being struck with lighting. The storm is raging right in front of her and she is standing still allowing the lighting to ripple through her. The second thing that drew me in was the religious aspect. I have read a lot of books that try and add a little religion and it is way off or to preachy but Jennifer has crafted a way where you see the Prophet as a crazy zealous man of God. You see these people on TV everyday who are preaching the word of God and telling people the world is coming to an end.

Struck is a great story that has many layers to it. First Mia and Parker and their mother have survived the earth quake but their mother was trapped under the rubble for some time so she is experiencing a mental breakdown. Mia has to be the strong one in the family and she does the job well. She looks after her mother and brother making sure they have food and that the house is protected from the tent people.

Once the storm settles Mia and Parker go back to school so they can receive food and other supplies to live. Once they get to school Mia sees the prophets children their preaching the word of God to gather followers because the Prophet says their is another storm coming and it is going to be bigger than the one they just survived. Mia stays clear of them because she does not trust them and then another group called the seekers and she can feel that they are not right either. All Mia wants to do is stay clear of both groups and survive this next storm.

What will Mia do? Will she join the Seekers or the Followers? Will her mother survive this next storm? What will Parker do? What is a girl to do when she is told the world is depending on her all she has to do is make the right choice and God will protect her. This story once you start to read it will have you so engrossed you will not be able to put it down and you will want more. The ending was great for a stand alone book and Jennifer in my opinion did a FABULOUS job on the ending. So what are you waiting for go out and get this book on May 08, 2012
