Someone Else's Life By Katie Dale Book Review

Someone Else's Life
When seventeen-year-old Rosie’s mother, Trudie, dies from Huntington’s Disease, her pain is intensified by the knowledge that she has a fifty-per-cent chance of inheriting the crippling disease herself. Only when she tells her mum’s best friend, ‘Aunt Sarah’ that she is going to test for the disease does Sarah, a midwife, reveal that Trudie was not her biological mother after all... Devastated, Rosie decides to trace her real mother, hitching along on her ex-boyfriend’s GAP year to follow her to Los Angeles. But all does not go to plan, and as Rosie discovers yet more of her family's deeply-buried secrets and lies, she is left with an agonising decision of her own - one which will be the most heart-breaking and far-reaching of all...

My Review  Ten Hearts On Fire

First off I would like to say that this book was INCREDIBLE! A big THANK YOU THANK YOU to NetGalley for allowing me to read this ARC.

This story was so many things wrapped into one. First you have the issue that everyone is dealing with and that is Huntington's Disease and the devastating wake that it leaves once a person dies from it. Then you have secrets and lies that can and will destroy families. And then you have love and relationships that are tested to the limits.

I have read a few books recently about diseases and illnesses that make you have to face a reality that is not so nice. In this story poor Rosie is left to take care of her mother who is dying from HD. She has to take care of her until she goes into the hospital where she dies. Rosie has given up her schooling and her social life to take care of her mother and most sadly she has given up the love of her life because she does not want to see him hurt and suffer with her.

Rosie went through so many ups and downs that at points in the story she was not sure what she wanted to do anymore. She finds out that people have been keeping secrets and telling lies for so long that once you go to unravel those lies and secrets you find more lies and secrets. At one point the only one really there for her is the one person she let go because she did not want him hurt.

I laughed and I cried as the scenes played out and I could not put this book down. I was amazed by the sheer strength Rosie had and how she held it all together and in the end did the right thing. Some secrets need to be exposed and that is what she did and to it was the right thing to do under the circumstances. In the end Rosie went through a lot but she also learned a lot and was able to find true love and keep him.

This is a MUST read! This story had me laughing, crying, and screaming all on one page and the love stories of a few couples is definitely SWOON worthy!
