Forty Days (Neima's Ark #1)
by Stephanie Parent
Release Date: 02/10/13
Summary from Goodreads:
The entire village knows Neima’s grandfather is a madman. For years the old man has prophesied that a great flood is coming, a flood disastrous enough to blot out the entire earth. He’s even built an enormous ark that he claims will allow his family to survive the deluge. But no one believes the ravings of a lunatic…
…until the rain starts. And doesn’t stop. Soon sixteen-year-old Neima finds her entire world transformed, her life and those of the people she loves in peril. Trapped on the ark with her grandfather Noah, the rest of her family, and a noisy, filthy, and hungry assortment of wild animals, will Neima find a way to survive?
With lions, tigers, and bears oh my, elephants and flamingos too, along with rivalries and betrayals, a mysterious stowaway, and perhaps even an unexpected romance, FORTY DAYS is not your grandfather’s Noah’s Ark story.
FORTY DAYS is approximately 45000 words, the length of a shorter novel, and is the first installment in a two-part epic story. It does contain a cliffhanger ending.
Readers looking for a traditional, religiously oriented version of the Noah’s Ark story should be warned that FORTY DAYS may not appeal to them. The novel will, however, appeal to lovers of apocalyptic fiction, historical fiction, and romance, as well as anyone who’s ever dreamed of having a baby elephant as a pet.
5 of 5 Forty Days
Forty Days is an age old story with a twist. I love how Stephanie pulled off re-telling the story of Noah's Ark and put a twist to it for modern day reading. Everyone knows the story of Noah's Ark of how he built an ark and told his family to prepare for the world ending and the villagers thought he was cray but when it started raining and did not stop they wanted on the ark with Noah and his family. In Forty Days we see the same story but with a few twists and turns and a cliff hanger to die for! I tell you some cliff hangers drive me nuts but this one did not it had me wanting more and wishing the second book was out so I could see what happens to everyone.
Neima's grandfather keeps telling her that there is going to be a flood and Neima just ignores him because she is not sure he is all there. But when the rain starts and she is forced on the boat with her crazy grandfather and family she realizes that her grandfather had been telling the truth all along. She is now stuck on the ark with animals and family that bickers and a few stowaways but that is okay because she is safe on the ark and she knows that.
As the rain continues to keep coming down things happen and Neima wonders just how much more crazy stuff is going to happen on the ark and how much more can she take. This is such a great story with it's on plot twists and turns it will leave you breathless and wanting the second book.
