The 5th Wave (The Fifth Wave #1) by Rick Yancey Book Review

The Passage meets Ender’s Game in an epic new series from award-winning author Rick Yancey.

After the 1st wave, only darkness remains. After the 2nd, only the lucky escape. And after the 3rd, only the unlucky survive. After the 4th wave, only one rule applies: trust no one.

Now, it’s the dawn of the 5th wave, and on a lonely stretch of highway, Cassie runs from Them. The beings who only look human, who roam the countryside killing anyone they see. Who have scattered Earth’s last survivors. To stay alone is to stay alive, Cassie believes, until she meets Evan Walker. Beguiling and mysterious, Evan Walker may be Cassie’s only hope for rescuing her brother—or even saving herself. But Cassie must choose: between trust and despair, between defiance and surrender, between life and death. To give up or to get up.

My Review

5 of 5 5TH Wave

The 5th Wave is one hell of a read! Man I could not put it down. I have not read a book where there were so many things going on and flowing together at the same time. I really enjoyed how Rick set up this world where the Aliens look and act just like humans so you don't know if the person is an alien or a human. That in itself was creepy reading about because you would think one thing and then it would be another. This genre is not a usual read for me but I have to say that right from the first page I was hooked and could not stop reading it until I was finished. When I finished I kept thinking Holy Moses what the hell just happened?

In 5th Wave we get to meet Cassie who is this strong heroine in this story and for that thank you Rick for not making her a cry baby and needing others to fight her battle. No way Cassie is strong and she will survive in order to find her brother and make sure that nothing happens to him. The waves come in and the first one is darkness and the people are not really sure what is going to happen but they know the darkness is not a good sign. Because out of darkness evil lurks.

Then the second wave hits and only the lucky survive this because the darkness is hiding evil beings that look and act just like you and I but they are killing everything and everybody in their path. The third wave hits and your fight or flight kicks in and only the strong will survive this wave because panic has set in and everyone is acting crazy. You can't tell who is who and what is what but you know that if you are alive you better have your wits about you. The fourth wave hits and you trust no one. You trust nothing but your survival instincts and that is where Cassie is right now and she feels confident that it is going to be hard but she needs to find her brother so nothing else matters. The fifth and final wave hits and it is run like hell and find hidden shelter to survive.

While Cassie is on the run she meets Evan Walker and he is a little strange. Evan is a mystery to Cassie but she feels like she can trust him and she is not sure why.She still feels like she should be protecting herself but Evan can help her find her brother and that is what is most important to Cassie. Can Cassie trust van? Is Evan a good guy? Will she allow herself to have that sliver of hope? Will she find her brother before it is to late?

This is a MUST READ for the summer. It will leave you breathless and speechless and wanting no needing book two like yesterday. My favorite saying for books like these are you need them like you need air to breathe! Happy Reading!
