*** Author Spotlight *** Kelsey Elise Sparrow Author of A Whiskey Sweet Novel

Synopsis:

Taryn “Whiskey”

Best friends. That’s what we are. At least, that’s what we were. One night changed our worlds forever. One night that turned into two days—two of the best days of my life. On the third morning, he was gone. I was heartbroken, but I didn’t know how to tell him.

Now, he’s engaged to be married and doesn’t know how I feel. Never thought a bottle of my namesake could cause me this much trouble.

Wesley

I am supposed to be getting married. The problem is, I can’t seem to stop wondering why my best friend and “best man,” Whiskey, isn’t standing right here with me. I need her to tell me I’m doing the right thing because I’m starting to have doubts.

I can’t stop thinking about those two nights we shared. We laughed and made jokes about how everyone said we’d end up together. At the time, we felt it was a crazy notion.

Now, I’m thinking maybe they knew something we didn’t. Maybe we dismissed the possibility far too soon.

What I’m certain of is I need to know everything before I make the biggest mistake of my life.

Goodreads:

Synopsis:

How is a person supposed to come to terms with these facts?

Fact 1: My parents aren’t upstanding citizens (kind of learned that one at an early age)

Fact 2: The same two people who gave me life are the same people I, not too long ago, watched slice up two of my high school peers. (Great! Serial killers on top of idiotic thieves.)

Oh, and that’s just the starter. What comes next makes those things seem like child’s play or having a cotton candy treat at a damn fair.

Destiny? Fate? I’d like to give those bitches a swift kick in the teeth.

Kincaid Peterson has his work cut out for him if I’m the one he wants to spend his time with.

After the death of his wife, Tanner Rowe takes a step toward making her dream come true and buys the house with the dilapidated barn she’d been inexplicably drawn to in the picturesque Upper Peninsula. But after a year, he still can’t get past his grief long enough to make the repairs he’d promised.

Recently out of prison, Cole Lachlan has little to his name. Homeless, broke, and without many options as a felon, Cole heads to Red Bluff with hopes of a second chance. There, he meets Tanner, whose loneliness mirrors his own and soon, Cole is trading room and board for rebuilding the burned-out barn on Tanner’s property that hasn’t been touched in seventy years.

Turns out, the barn holds a lot more secrets than either of them could have imagined. After unearthing a hidden journal from 1948, Cole and Tanner spend their evenings poring through the pages and reading about a young man pining after his best friend. As they delve deeper into this forbidden affair from the past, the more Cole and Tanner’s own relationship shifts—from acquaintance to friend…to undeniable attraction.

But as they begin to deal with the newness of falling in love amid Cole’s past and Tanner’s loss, they also become more determined to unravel the mystery of the young lovers who’ve captured their hearts, the rumors about the fire, and what really happened that fateful night.

My Review

🔨🔨🔨🔨🔨

OMG I don't even have words to describe this book...... I loved loved it so much. Watching two people fall in love slowly and learn to lean on each other is amazing. I love how Tanner struggles to come to turns with his wife's death and give her her wishes. The house is something he is not sure he can handle but it was his wife's wish to own it and fix it up. So he does but once he moves there he can't find it in him to fix the place but instead wallowing in his own sadness.

That is until Cole comes into the picture. Cole is a tortured soul straight out of prison needing a place to stay when he meets Tanner and they decide in exchange for room and board Cole will rebuild the barn for Tanner. As the two of them uncover a secret about the house and old owner they start to build a friendship first then it turns into something more for the both of them.

Will Tanner let go and let Cole in or will he stay buried deep in his grief? This is a must read book for all M/M lovers. This story had me crying and laughing and needing more. Breathless is what I was.......

Excerpt
Every so often, Tanner found his eyes drawn back to the window. With the exception of a small lunch break, Cole didn’t stop working. He might not know much about building a barn, but the things Cole was doing now he could help with. There was no reason he couldn’t clean or haul debris to the truck. He didn’t for a couple of reasons. First, this was what he’d hired Cole to do. It might have only been a short amount of time, but Tanner knew Cole well enough to know he wouldn’t feel as if he was earning his keep if Tanner helped too much. But also, even though he’d promised Emma he’d follow her dream for them, part of him resented it because it hadn’t been his dream, it had been hers. They were supposed to do it together, and now she was gone and he was here, with a man he didn’t know, trying to make it happen. Those thoughts made him an asshole, he was pretty sure, but they were true. He was lonely, Christ, he was lonely. He’d almost asked Cole to share lunch with him earlier, but his phone had rung instead. He didn’t know why he kept himself from talking much with Cole. He was an interesting man, and obviously well read. He had a pride about him that Tanner respected. It intrigued him. They had common ground, so why was he resisting? Their arrangement was temporary and a working relationship. It wasn’t as if any harm could come from it. It would give him someone to talk to until Cole was on his way. That’s the man I know, Emma’s voice whispered in his head. He was beginning to worry he was going crazy. He heard her more often than was probably healthy. Not just memories either, but moments like this one, where it was almost as if she was talking to him. Logically, he realized it was just that he knew Emma, knew what she would say and how she would feel, but it was also concerning. Tanner continued working until he reached a good stopping point, then went downstairs. He was craving spaghetti and meatballs, which usually wasn’t one of his favorite meals. Since he had ground beef in the fridge, he washed his hands and started dinner. He sautéed the meatballs while he got the sauce going. An hour later he had the meal ready, complete with a salad. He went to pluck a plate from the cabinet to fix some up for Cole, then paused. What’s it going to hurt, Tan? He closed his eyes, pursed his lips because a part of him wanted to answer Emma. It would make him feel closer to her. But he didn’t. Goddamn it. He put the plate away and made his way outside. Cole was standing by the truck, with his shirt off. Beads of sweat rolled down his sun-kissed skin, over the tattoos on his arms. Did they mean anything? He found himself wondering. He didn’t have any himself. Wasn’t sure what he would get if he ever decided to get one. Tanner’s eyes darted away when Cole turned around to look at him. He figured that was silly and glanced back to see Cole’s brows pulled together. “If you’re hungry, dinner’s done.” He saw Cole’s eyes lower to his hands since he usually carried the plate out. “It’s hot as hell. Figured you could eat in the kitchen with me, if you’d like.” Again, he averted his gaze, this time looking toward the barn. Did Cole not want to share a meal with him? Would he prefer to eat alone in a half-burned barn? “You don’t have to if you don’t want, of course. I just thought—” “No, no,” Cole interrupted. He had a slightly raspy voice that was unique to him. “It’s not that. It’d be nice to eat inside, enjoy the cool house. But I don’t want to take advantage of your hospitality.” “You’re not,” Tanner replied. Really, what in the hell had he done for Cole? He wasn’t very hospitable at all. He was paying him for work. “Okay,” Cole replied. “Let me get my things. And I should shower first. I’m awfully sweaty.”Riley Hart Logo Banner

She was off-limits, but it didn’t stop me from wanting her.

My life was empty. My thoughts were dark. My heart was stone.

Feeling unwanted for most of my life, I didn’t know where I belonged or what my purpose was. He was all I had until she came along and brought out emotions I never knew were possible. She was innocent. Pure. Untouched. She was the daughter of a rival club member, but that didn’t stop us. It only heightened the desire, the passion we felt. My Review:

💙💙💙💙💙

First off I just want to say that Tijan did an excellent job no not excellent PHENOMENAL job writing this book. It took me two days to read it and I was pissed off because I did not want to put it down but life got in the way so I had to put it down. I have read a lot of books but this one just blew me out the water. I mean I can't stop thinking about the characters and all the drama that went down in this book. I know I will re-read it again and again till the next book comes out.

Bren is our main character and she is bad a$$, fierce, loyal and everything a loyal friend is. She is part of Crew and they stick together doing everything together. She is the only girl in the Crew and she takes no s!@# from anyone and get down just like the guys in the Crew. She can hold her own and everyone knows not to mess with her because she will not stand for it. See there are rules to follow and she follows all of them except for one. Never fall in love but that is so hard when the person you fall for knows everything about you and knows what your going to do before you do it.

This is where the story really drew me in. Seeing Bren slowly fall in love and realize that she loves that person and will do anything to be with that person. You get to see why Bren is so guarded and for good reason because she has had a hard life and has gone through hell and back holding on to stuff that hurts but pushing it down so she can live day to day.

I can't say enough about this book. I don't want to spoil it for the reader but I will say that this book is one of my favorites for 2018. I can't see what Tijan has in store for us with the next book. This is a world where you will want to revisit it time and time again.

When I looked up, Cross stood over me, but he wasn’t watching me. He was looking at the reason I’d come out here.

He sighed, sitting next to me. “How’d I know you’d be here tonight?”

“You tracked my phone?” I sat up and grinned at him.

He chuckled, reaching for the whiskey in my hand. The cap was already off, and he took a drink, hissing through his teeth. “Fuck.” He handed it back. “Why do you drink that shit?”
I smirked, taking a drink. Unlike him, I enjoyed the burn. “Why do you?”
“Because you do.”

He said that like it made the most sense in the world.

He stood there, watching me for a moment.

I thought he’d say something, but he didn’t. He just stared at me, and a different feeling took root. An awareness. It was low in my belly, beginning to trickle up, almost tickling my insides.

All the while, he never looked away until slowly, he reached up and pulled his shirt off. His muscles rippled from the movement. For a second I saw every single one of his muscles outlined, all the way to the V dipping under his jeans. His eyes stayed on me as his hands dropped to his pants. He unbuckled them, letting them drop, and he kicked them to the side.

He’d taken his socks and shoes off in the bathroom, and now he stood in his boxer briefs. It wasn’t anything I hadn’t seen before, but there was a different feel to the room that night.

The tickle was still there, but it had softened. It almost felt like a tingle now.

I couldn’t endure it anymore, whatever it was, and I closed my eyes.
