Falling In Between By Devon Ashley Book Review And Character Interviews

Falling In Between (Falling #1)

Finally! A private conversation. And all I had to do was throw myself off a cliff, drown in a pond in my undies and let him put his hands on my breasts to bring me back to life. Yay me! (yeah, that's sarcasm)

Yep, that pretty much sums up the most craptastic night of Jenna Baker’s life. She drowns after jumping off a cliff, meets a hotty named Chance in the pearlescent in-between and is brought back to life by her soon-to-be boyfriend Robert.

Just when things start to move forward with Robert, the guy she'd been crushing on for a year now, in walks the man of her dreams – literally. Chance suddenly appears in her dream every time she closes her eyes. So it's Robert by day and Chance by night. One in the real world and one in the dream world. What could possibly go wrong?

Absolutely nothing – until she comes face to face with the guy she met in the in-between, and realizes her romantic rendezvous with Chance may be more than just her imagination.

Mature YA. Recommended for older teenagers

Thank you guys for stopping by A Diary Of A Book Addict today. I know you guys are busy with college starting soon so I will make this brief. Everyone can't get enough of you guys and the readers really wanted to ask a lot of questions but I told them we could only ask three. Guys the girls SO wanted to kill me but I told them they can still swoon quietly. Girls the guys had SOOOOO many questions and of course there were cat calls and lot's of blushing going on. tehehehe

So guys here goes the questions for each of you and yes OMG they are all different!

Robert:

1. What was going on in your mind when you were looking for Jenna under the water? Sheer panic. I planned on asking her out at the beginning of term but we didn't have any classes together and I hadn't seen her yet. I was starting to wonder if she was even still attending Pennington Academy. So when Sophie said it was Jenna that was lost in the pond, I just panicked. I went under and refused to come back up without her. I was pretty close to drowning myself.

2. Where you nervous when you asked Jenna to be your girlfriend? Oh, man. A little. I mean, I knew she'd say yes, but still. That fear of rejection from someone you really want always weighs heavy in the back of your mind. Luckily she said yes!

3. Why do you think your mom is so against you wanting to be with Jenna? Probably cause Jenna is the complete opposite of what she expects me to be with. Jenna's not rich, didn't come from high society and isn't related to any of the families my mother considers worthy to acknowledge. But she doesn't know Jenna. She hasn't taken the time to see what I see. And Jenna's better than the girls my mother has in mind for me.

Jenna:

1. How did you feel when you woke up in the hospital and found out Robert had saved you? Dumbfounded? Even more so when Sophie told me she had to pull the best friend card just to get to be the one visitor I could have in ICU. Yeah, I was totally into him, and I hoped he liked me too, but I just wasn't so sure he was. Nothin' like a mini tragedy to bring everyone together, huh?

2. When did you realize you had fallen in love with both Robert and Chance? Probably when I realized Chance was alive in the real world and wasn't really just a figment of my imagination. I love them both, I won't lie. Still do.

3. In four years will you contact the guy you didn't choose and see how he's doing or are you going to forget about him? Um, I don't know. A part of me will always love both guys and a part of me will always wonder, but I suppose it's best for all to just move forward, right? But maybe...

Jhett:

1. When you found out Jenna was the one who was drowning what were you thinking when you guys could not find her in the water? Oh *hit she's dead.

2. What did Robert say to you when you tried to give Jenna CPR? Uh, I don't think I can repeat those colorful words on here. Needless to say, he was a little stressed and panicky at that moment. I didn't want him to stop working on Jenna just to keep shoving me off so I just stayed on the other side of her with my hands ready - just in case.

3. Are you and Sophie going to go to the same college and are you guys still going to continue to date? We're going to keep dating but we're going to be at different colleges this first year. Hopefully we'll figure out soon if we're worth staying together. I hope we are - cause my girl is funky and hot!

Sophie:

1. Did you think Jenna was going to die the night you guys jumped from the cliff? Oh-my-freakin'-God! Yes! For a split second I thought she was just screwing with me cause I bullied her into jumping, but when she didn't come up after fifteen seconds I completely flipped out and started screaming. If Robert and Jhett hadn't come running up, I don't know what would've happened. I'm not as a good a swimmer as they are. I couldn't even dive to the bottom of the pond.

2. Are you guys going to keep in touch when you guys leave high school? Hell yeah! Jenna's like my sister. Besides, this girl knows all my dirrrrty secrets and could totally burn me if I ever flipped her switch!

3. All the ladies want to know are you going to stay with Jhett while you guys go to college? Well, turns out we've been accepted to different universities. We're gonna try the long distance thing this year and if we're still interested in being a couple, we're gonna try to get into the same college somewhere so we can try this relationship for real. But I hope so!

Chance...er Evan...I am really not sure what to call you.....

1. What were you and the bobble-head Barbie arguing about in the car on that night of the accident? Aw crap! I knew this was going to come back to haunt me! Melissa and I had just broken up. We were always fighting and I just didn't want to do it anymore. During the car ride home she was throwing a fit about me never loving her. I shook my head and rolled my eyes cause the truth was, I was just annoyed at that point. She saw me and smacked me. I had just turned my head toward her, ready to yell and smack. Next thing I know I'm waking up in a hospital and it's been the better part of a year.

2. When you woke up what was the first thing you remember? Well, my memory's kind of fuzzy from when I woke up. Now it all just feels like a dream. But I think my first thoughts were something along the lines of "What the fu-dge?" and "Is that hot nurse the one that's been sponge-batheing me? Awesome!"

3. Would your friends really disown you if they knew you were dating a girl from Pennington Academy? Shh! I'm still trying to keep that on the down-low! Most of the Penn girls are absolute snobs and are the laughing stock of our high school. And it's not so much they would disown me as they would make my life a living hell! I would be a walking social disaster at my school. So the girl better be well worth it! (She is, by the way).
Guys thanks for stopping by A Diary Of A book Addict. We really appreciate you taking the time out and answering our questions. I just have one question is there going to be more to your story that we will see? Like maybe another book or even a Novella? Inquiring minds want to know!

Hmm...it's highly probable! The story doesn't end just cause the book comes to a close! 2013 just might bring a follow-up novel to Falling In Between!

Please don't forget to stop by on February 17, 2012 to read my review and enter to win a copy of Falling In Between!

MY REVIEW
 5 STARS WONDERFUL READ!
Veronica has done it again! I absolutely loved Something Witchy This Way Comes. SWTC was a young adult book and this book was for a more mature audience and I have to say she captured my heart with this one!

I am a big old sap for love stories especially when you have to fight for the love to stay alive. In this story Shelby has moved away from home and started a new life after losing the love of her life Logan. They dated for many years in high school but then Logan had to move away and when he left he took Shelby's heart with him. Shelby tried dating different guys but it never worked out for long because all she thought about was Logan and how much she loved him. It didn't matter what she tried she could not get rid of him because he was everywhere she looked. See Logan was a famos Author and he was all over the billboards and magazines and the news. So no matter how hard she tried to forget him she could not.

Logan loves Shelby he is miserable without her but the long distance thing just does not seem to be working for them. So he breaks up with her in hopes that she will find someone to love. The only thing is he can't get over her and he wants her back. He is afraid that she will tell him to get lost because she is still angry with him but he loves her and will do anything to be with her but will that be enough for him? Will Shelby let him back in?

Her best friend tired of seeing her hurt and alone tries hard to fix Shelby up with Mr Right only thing is Mr Right is not her idea of right. Then her best friend sends her on a blind date and tells her she will know who it is when she gets to the resturant. Once Shelby gets there to the resturant her life will forever be changed because the person sitting there patiently waiting for her is someone she definately did not want to see.

What is a girl to do when she loves someone and the other person doesn't love her or so she thinks? Can time heal all wounds? What will Shelby do with this stranger she is sitting next to? When love is all you have is it enough to mend the heart and restart a relationship you thought was lost? Read this book to find out and you will not be disappointed!

Veronica I look forward to reading more from you! Thanks a bunch for this great read.

Fifty Shades Freed by E.L. James Book Review

Fifty Shades Freed (Fifty Shades, #3)

When unworldly student Ana Steele first encountered the driven, damaged young entrepreneur Christian Grey it sparked a sensual affair that changed both their lives irrevocably. Shocked, intrigued, and ultimately repelled by Christian’s singular sexual tastes, Ana demanded a deeper commitment; determined to keep her, Christian agreed.

Now, together, they have more – love, passion, intimacy, and a world of infinite possibilities. But Ana always knew that loving her Fifty Shades would not be easy, and being together poses challenges neither of them ever anticipated. Ana must somehow learn to share Christian’s opulent lifestyle without sacrificing her own integrity, identity or independence; Christian must somehow overcome his compulsion to control, and lay to rest the horrors that blighted his past and haunt his present.

Just when it seems that together their love can conquer any obstacle, misfortune, malice and fate combine to make Ana’s worst nightmares come true. Alone and desperate, she must face down the poisoned legacy of Christian’s past.

Seductive, shocking, sad and funny, Fifty Shades Freed is the compelling final volume in the Fifty Shades trilogy.

MY REVIEW
***This is a must read series! This is for a mature audience because of the sexual content and the language.***

Fifty... Fifty... Fifty... Lord where do I begin with this review? I LOVE me some Fifty Shades! This series was first introduced to me by my good friend Rachael Wade. She rocks and I read her book and she recommended I read Fifty Shades. I am SO GLAD she did because I have NEVR EVER read a series like this with so much going on.

In this FINAL (sad to see it go) installment of Fifty we find ourselves enjoying Ana and Christian's Wedding. As they are on their honeymoon we get to see the crazy fun loving side of Christian that Ana knew was there buried deep down inside him. Then we get to see his controlled Fifty Shades come rearing his ugly head. While away on their honeymoon something happens back home which makes Christian stressed out and we all know what happens to Christian when he is stressed. He needs his RED ROOM OF PAIN action to go on. Ana complies as best she can but she is really not feeling the repercussions or the aftermath of how Fifty acts. But hell she married him so she complies and they have fun and make it work.

Then they come home from vacation and all hell breaks lose because Fifty as usual is keepiung things from Ana and she is his wife know and she is not hearing it. So as usual they argue and makeup but in all this Christian has to find his balancve so he does not lose Ana. He finally knows what it is to be loved and he does not want to lose that. Of course with that being said they go through some rough things and Ana and Christian must find their way back to each other. Ana has to come to terms with Fifty all Fifty shades of his crazyness and all fifty shades of his controlling ways.

In the end because I don't want to spoil it Ana and Christian have to find a way to balance out each other so they can have a happy life. What will Christian do? Will he be able to give up his Kinkey Fuckery to be with Ana? Or can Ana live with his Kinkey Fuckery and learn to do a little more in the RED ROOM OF PAIN? In this final installment I laughed and I creid and I screamed at my Kindle because I was so pissed at times. Christian can be immature and Ana can be down right DUMB! I give her all the credits and props in the world because I could not deal with the roller coaster of emotions that she dealt with.

Yes she was told from the very begining to leave him alone and stay far away from him because he was no good for her. But Ana chose to follow her heart and she ended up getting a great prize. Christian will always have to work on his controlling ways but he has come a long way with Ana. The best thing she did was leave him because he had to come to terms with his wicked ways if he wanted to be with her and in the end he did. He chose Ana and her love to always be with her and in the end they both won out.

I love me some Fifty Shades of Fuckedupness!

Favorite Quotes:
“You know, you’re topping from the bottom,” he murmurs against my lips.

“What?” I don’t understand what he’s talking about.

“Don’t worry. I’ll live with it,” he whispers, amused...”

“Christian, you are the state lottery, the cure for cancer, and the three wishes from Aladdin's lamp all rolled into one”

“Oh Christian... my possessive, jealous, control freak Christian.”

“Good evening, Mrs. Grey," Christian says softly. He's standing by the piano, dressed in a tight black T-shirt, and jeans...those jeans- the ones he wore in the playroom. Oh my. They are over washed pale-blue denim, snug, ripped at the knee and hot. He saunters over to me, his feet bare, the top button of the jeans undone, his smoldering eyes never leaving mine. "Good to have you home. I've been waiting for you.”

“He makes me graceful, that's his skill. He makes me sexy, because that's what he is. He makes me feel loved, because in spite of his fifty shades, he has a wealth of love to give.”

“I hate fighting with you,” he whispers.
“Well, stop being such an arse.”
He chuckles and the captivating sound reverberates through his chest. He tightens his hold on me. “Arse?”
“Ass.”
“I prefer arse.”
“You should. It suits you.”

Never Eighteen by Megan Bostic Book Review

Never Eighteen

I had the dream again. The one where I’m running. I don’t know what from or where to, but I’m scared, terrified really.

Austin Parker is never going to see his eighteenth birthday. At the rate he’s going, he probably won’t even see the end of the year. But in the short time he has left there’s one thing he can do: He can try to help the people he loves live—even though he never will.

It’s probably hopeless.

But he has to try.

My Review

Thank you to Netgalley for allowing me to read this book. To say it was great, fantastic or any other word just does do it for this book. For me the word EPIC comes to mind, totally EPIC!

"Austin Parker is never going to see his eighteenth birthday." This one line had me wanting to read this book. I was gripped by the book cover because of the car but then I read the blurb and the first line said he was not making it to his eighteenth birthday. I just had to read it and I am so glad I did.

The story starts out with Austin having a crazy dream and all he can think about is setting things straight. He has this idea and he is not sure if it will work but he is going to try. The only thing is is that he needs his best friend Kaylee's help. He is not so sure she will do it but he is going to ask her anyways. So he gets up and gets dressed and walks the four streets over to Kaylee's house to see if she will do what he is about to ask her.

When Austin gets there and asks Kaylee for her help she says yes without even knowing what he is about to ask of her. When he explains to her what he is going to do she is a little hesistant but she says are you sure you want to do it and he says yes. That is all she needs so she agrees and they are off to do this adventure. Austin has this feeling that if he goes and sees people he hasn't in a while he can right the wrongs that have been done to them. He feels if he can give them a little piece of happiness then he has done a good deed.

Along this journey what Austin finds is that some people just never really want to face what they have been through. They rather just leave it well enough alone, but with his urging he challenges them to do the impossible. Also along this journey Austin must come to terms that he is in love with someone that he will never be able to make happy because in a short while he will die. But he is so determined to tell this person how he feels and spend the little time he has left with her he finds that she has always felt the same way and she tells him how much she loves him.

They share a few magical nights together and do some amazing things. They become so close he realizes he does not want this to end but he knows it will and can accept it because he speant as much time with her as he could. I laughed and I cried and I screamed at this book. I have never had so many emotions about a story before. I love how megan puts it all together and the ending was EPIC! Yes it may not be what people want but it is reality and that is what counts. Austin got his happily ever after and Kaylee got to see first hand what it was like to love and be open and free with someone.

This is an AMAZING story of love, illness and friendship. Megan has done a wonderful job and I look forward to reading more form her.

My Review

Thank you to Netgalley for allowing me to read this ARC.WOW this is the first book I have read in this series. I know I did it backwards but this book cover called me so much I just had to read it and I am so glad I did.

Lindsey Yi is still mourning the death of her parents in a horrible train wreck a year ago. She has moved to a small town of Lincoln, Connecticut. She is living with her guardian and attending yet another new school. The only thing good about moving here is that she has found a home where she has friends and no longer considers herself a freak because of her gift. Here she has met others who have gifts and are not afraid to use them for good.

As the school year is winding down Lindsey and her friends feel like something big is going to happen to the town. There are strange things lurking about and the weather is changing constantly. Then Lindsey comes face to face with evil and the only way to destroy this evil is to confront her past and let go of the pain of losing her parents. This task is a lot harder than it seems because everytime she closes her eyes she can see her parents die over and over again. Will she be able to look past her pain and stand up for good or will evil prevail?

What will lindsey do? Will her friends be there for her? Will she find answers to her questions in order to let go and come to turns with reality? Come along for a great fast paced adventure and read this book because you will not be able to put it down. I am going to go read the first three because I LOVED this books o much so I have to see how the other three friends came into their powers and what is in store for them on the fifth book which comes out this August 2012.

My Review

Warning: This book is warrioristic!

My Rating: 10 of 10

My Cover Thoughts: I absolutely love this cover! The girl is so beautiful and her tattoo that covers her arm is exquisite! I really want to get that tattooed on my arm!

My Thoughts/Review: This book is one that I just could not out down. I could not get enough and when I finished I wanted more because I just needed to know what happened.

So with that being said Alexa is just your ordinary teen who wants to go to school and get out of her house. Her mother makes her train in her spare time and teaches Alexa how to fight to protect her little sister. They move around a lot but that is to keep them safe. From what Alexa does not know because her mother will not share that. Then they move to this small town and Alexa makes friends with Jackson. Jackson is always there when she needs him and he keeps her out of trouble.

Then one night Alexa is home and she is hanging out with her sister when trouble comes knocking on the door. Alexa’s mother tells her to take her sister and run. She is to take her to the hidden spot and wait for further instructions. They run and run until Alexa kills two of the monsters chasing her and her sister. They slow down when they hear something and when they look it is Jackson running toward them to help Alexa protect her sister.

Once at the hidden place Alexa finds out some disturbing news. She is now faced with some tough decisions but the one decision she knows to be true is that she must protect her sister at all costs and she will do it. Jackson is there to protect Alexa and he is also keeping a secret that she will soon find out.

Come along for the ride of a lifetime with Alexa, Nelly, Jackson, Kayden, Tommy and Gavin! Alexa will find things out that will change her and her sister’s future. She is forced to make a decision that is both heart breaking but necessary. What will Alexa choose? Read on to find out!

Memorable Quotes: “Giving up already, Warrior?”

I shook my head. “I don’t give up on anything that’s important… but I need you to lower the gate for me, I have some things I have to go take care of.” I hoped that sounded convincing.

To my surprise, Gavin winked. “Will you be coming back?”

“If I’m lucky.”

“Then, good luck, Warrior. I look forward to your return.” Then, he lowered the gate.

Before I could pull forward, he said, “Don’t forget what you saw here, Alexa.”

At hearing my name, I smiled, though I’m sure there was more sadness in it than anything else. “I won’t forget what I left here.”

Finding Alice by Andrea DiGiglio

Finding Alice (Alice Clark, #1)

Cursed with an intense version of empathy Alice runs from a wasted life to start a new one somewhere no one will know her; Hell, Michigan. Alice works at a hole-in-the-wall bar in the middle of nowhere mostly keeping to herself to avoid the overwhelming emotions of those around her. Alice allows her best friend to convince her into taking a few college classes without realizing it would drastically change her life forever. From her first day of class she was hooked on him; his scent, his eyes, the way he talked to her inside her head.

Throughout her struggles she learns about true love, true pain and the truth of her own heritage. Alice must quickly find out who she is because after all everyone else is out to find her. With Angels and Bounty Hunter’s in constant pursuit she finds protection within a group of Fallen Angels. These Fallen Angels vow to do anything to protect her; for it is their belief she will save their kind and all of mankind.

       My review:
I received Finding Alice as an ARC from the author Andrea and I have to say HOLY COW! This is an EPIC beginning to a series! As most of you know I love Angel and Demon stories. The just fascinate me and when I started reading this book I could not put it down. Man has Andrea created a real world where good vs evil is ever present.

Alice is a loner who speaks to no one and minds her business. When she is not in school she is off drawing in her sketch book. Her last foster home is anything but normal so she decides to leave and never look back. When she leaves her foster family for good she seeks out a place where it is quiet and no one knows her and where she can reinvent herself. She finds that in Hell Michigan where everyone there is quiet and minds there business. There she changes her name and starts working at a bar where she loves it.

Then she meets one of the bar workers Camille. Camille is full of energy and always telling Alice she should enroll in college. So Alice decides she will enroll in two classes, one being a Religious History class and the other an art class. On the first day of class Alice is waiting for Camille when this GORGEOUS guy walks in and Alice's world seems to stand still. Alice is not sure if she is dreaming but she feels this instant connection to this guy and can't stop staring at him. Camille comes int he room and is totally laughing at Alice because Alice has never ever showed interest in anyone before.

As the weeks pass on Alice is starting to like school and even finds herself spending more time with Camille at the bar. Alice is also staring to come out of her shell and starts talking to Cole (Mr Gorgeous). Then things start to get weird for Alice. She starts having these crazy dreams and she can't decide whether or not they are real. The one thing she does know is that these dreams scare the mess out of her. What is Alice to do, should she follow the dream or should she ignore the dreams? Will she ever be able to open her heart and love? Will she be able to trust the one person she is falling for?

Alice will have to come face to face with her fears and figure out who she is and what these strange dreams mean to her. Will she open her heart up enough to be loved by the one person who is hiding a secret? What will her secret reveal? What is she to do about the bounty hunter's who are after her? Will she really believe her eyes when she see's one of God's chosen ones?

I felt the room catch up to me as his lips touched mine. His kiss consumed every inch of my being. It was intensely gentle with just the right amount of raw, rough passion. I could live in that moment for the rest of my life. We fell back onto the bed and a cloud of dark feathers flew into the air above us, hovering. His arms tangled around me as I ran my hands down his back. I don’t think I could have felt any closer to him than I did in that moment.

Andrea DiGiglio. Finding Alice (Kindle Locations 633-637).

This book does not come out till February 19, 2012 and I am telling you this is a MUST READ! I could not put it down because it has everything from Angels to Nephelim to bounty hunter's and no one is as they seem.

Here's some quotes from book one and book two coming out soon. Enjoy them and if you would like to win a SIGNED copy all you have to do is fill out the raffelcopter.

Finding Alice(Book # 1 in The Alice Clark Series)

-We had only brushed against each other a few times and every time, it was intoxicating and mesmerizing.

"Surprise me," he said with a wolf-like grin. I barely took my eyes off of him while I mixed his drink. They were piercing and he had to know the effect they had on me. I would say it should have been considered abuse, but I liked it.- Finding Alice

-The stench of death in the cold breeze whisked across my face as the last breath of air slipped from my lungs. -

couple sneaks into book 2-

-She turned her head away from his cold dead eyes and refocused on the dirt smeared cement below her. "Go ahead break me, I don't even know what it feels like to feel whole." It was a dare and he knew it, he also knew she truly didn't give a damn what happened to her and that was far more aggravating to him.-

Review of Hallowed By Cynthia Hand

Hallowed (Unearthly, #2)

For months part-angel Clara Gardner trained to face the raging forest fire from her visions and rescue the alluring and mysterious Christian Prescott from the blaze. But nothing could prepare her for the fateful decisions she would be forced to make that day, or the startling revelation that her purpose—the task she was put on earth to accomplish—is not as straightforward as she thought.

Now, torn between her increasingly complicated feelings for Christian and her love for her boyfriend, Tucker, Clara struggles to make sense of what she was supposed to do the day of the fire. And, as she is drawn further into the world of part angels and the growing conflict between White Wings and Black Wings, Clara learns of the terrifying new reality that she must face: Someone close to her will die in a matter of months. With her future uncertain, the only thing Clara knows for sure is that the fire was just the beginning.

5 Angels!

Thank you to Netgalley for allowing me to review this ARC early. I really enjoyed it and recommend you read Unearthly first if you have not read it yet. This is the much anticipated sequel to Clara's story.

HOLY COW! I can not convey how much I LOVED this book. Cynthia has done it again! She has created a sequel that is EPIC! I could not put it down once I started reading it. I have read lots of sequels and have been left wondering what happened but Cynthia ties everything up and adds twists and turns that leave you NEEDING the third book ASAP!

When we ended Unearthly Clara messed up on her purpose and decided she would follow her heart. She decided to save Tucker and deal with the consequences. She ends up spending the entire summer with Tucker and has not had any visions about her purpose. As Clara will soon find out she will have a vision that will change her entire world. She will once again have to make a chose and what she chooses could be the difference between someones life and death. She will uncover some family secrets that will rock the whole family. She will come face to face with a person she has not wanted to see.

Clara will come face to face with some unresolved feelings she has and she will learn more about her Angel heritage. She and Angela will uncover some things that will help them with their purpose. Christian will also comes to term with his purpose and where he is supposed to be and who he is supposed to be with. He will also uncover some secrets his Uncle is keeping from him and he will have to decide what to do and who to trust. Christian will also realize that he has been shielding his true feelings for someone and he finally puts it all on the line with that person and see where it ends.

This sequel has so many twists and turns and so many Angels and Demons it will leave you breathless! You will not want to put this story down because you feel what Clara is feeling and it keeps coming fast and furious that you don't know whether or not you are coming or going. You will be rooting for Christian and Tucker. Both guys are *SWOON* worthy and they both bring something different to the table. If you have not read Unearthly you have to read it ASAP in order to follow the story and understand why some people make the decisions they do but I promise you you will not be disappointed!

“This is the part where I kiss you.”

“Tucker strokes my hair. There's something so tender about the gesture. It might as well have been him whispering I love you.”

“I'll never forget the way he tastes. It's not anything I can describe, a little sweet and a whole lot of spice, and it feels, in that moment, absolutely right.”

*Sneak Peek!* Someone Else's Life by Katie Dale

When seventeen-year-old Rosie’s mother, Trudie, dies from Huntington’s Disease, her pain is intensified by the knowledge that she has a fifty-per-cent chance of inheriting the crippling disease herself. Only when she tells her mum’s best friend, ‘Aunt Sarah’ that she is going to test for the disease does Sarah, a midwife, reveal that Trudie was not her biological mother after all... Devastated, Rosie decides to trace her real mother, hitching along on her ex-boyfriend’s GAP year to follow her to Los Angeles. But all does not go to plan, and as Rosie discovers yet more of her family's deeply-buried secrets and lies, she is left with an agonising decision of her own - one which will be the most heart-breaking and far-reaching of all...

Expected publication: February 2nd 2012 by Simon & Schuster Childrens Books

Chapter One

Sunlight dances over the little girl’s dark curls as she toddles clumsily through the dry grass. Her rosy cheeks dimple as she grins, her green eyes sparkling as she lunges sticky fingers towards the camera. Suddenly she trips.
The picture immediately jolts and twists into the grass, continuing at a skewed angle as a chestnut-haired woman rushes over to the child. But she is not crying. The screen fills with silent giggles as her mother scoops her up, her beautiful face filled with tenderness as she cuddles her daughter tightly, protectively, holding her so close it seems she’ll never let go... The picture begins to blur…
I click the remote and the image flicks off, plunging the room into darkness. I stare at the blank screen. It’s weird to watch your memories on screen, like watching a movie. It’s like somewhere, in some wonderful world, those moments are trapped, bottled, to be enjoyed again. I wonder if Heaven’s like that – that you get to choose the best moments of your life and just relive them over and over. I hope so.
The world outside looks different already. A desert of white – the first white Christmas Eve in Sussex in years. The snow hides everything, glossing over the lumps and dips and tufts to leave a perfect, smooth surface. Like icing on a Christmas cake. It’s all still there, though. The dirty gravel that hisses and spits as you drive over it, the jagged rocks in the garden, the muddy patch where nothing grows – they’re all still there, lurking, sleeping, beneath the mask of snow.
Like my mother.
Nothing on the inside changed, the doctors said. She could still understand what we were saying, she just couldn’t respond like she used to. Couldn’t hug me and tell me everything was going to be alright, like she always had. Like I needed her to. Because everything was not alright.
I pull the blanket tighter, but it makes no difference. I’m already wearing three sweaters. Ever since Mum got ill I’m always too hot or too cold – I can’t explain it. Yesterday was one of the hot days, even though it snowed practically non-stop. Everyone looked at me like I was crazy, standing in the snowy graveyard in Mum’s strappy stilettos and my red velvet dress amongst the whispering sea of black, disapproving sighs rising like smoke signals in the frosty air. But I didn’t care – the biddies could tut all they liked – she was mymother and the dress was her favourite on me. She called me her Rose Red.
The shoes were her favourites too – I remember her dancing in them at my cousin Lucy’s wedding. I was about four or five at the time, hiding beneath the buffet-table in protest at the fuchsia meringue I’d been forced to wear as flower-girl. But when Mum started dancing I forgot all about that. I crawled out and just stared at her, mesmerized. God, she was graceful. Everyone stopped to watch her whirling, swirling form as she glided around the room, those heels clacking like castanets.
When the song ended she stopped, breathless and slightly dizzy, and looked around as if unsure where she was. Then someone started to clap. Embarrassment flushing her cheeks, she ran a hand through her hair and scooped me up into a tight hug, her eyes shining with tears. It was only later that I found out it was the first song she and Daddy had danced to at their wedding.
The stilettos were one of the first heartbreaks of the diagnosis. I remember hearing Mum crying in her room one day, and padding up to find her sitting on her bed, placing them carefully into a silver box like a coffin, shrouded with beautiful rose-coloured tissue paper. The doctors said high heels were just an accident waiting to happen and that, with everything else, was something she really didn’t need. I watched as she kissed each shoe before pressing the lid down gently, and tying the whole precious package together with a blue ribbon.

The first of many sacrifices to Huntington’s.
That was a long time ago, though. That Mumdied long before her heart stopped beating last Tuesday. The real Mum. How I’ll always remember her;wearing those precious shoes and swirling and whirling away to her heart’s content. Not lying alone, small and frail and empty, in a hospital bed.
The sharp ringing of the telephone makes me jump. I count the rings – one, two, three – and the machine kicks in.
‘Hello!’ Mum’s voice sings, and my heart leaps. ‘You have reached the Kenning residence. Trudie and Rosie are out at the mo, but if you’d like to leave a message – you know what to do!’
I swallow painfully. Aunt Sarah’s been on at me to change it – and I know I should – but I just can’t bring myself to erase her voice. She sounds so happy. So alive.
A male voice clears his throat uncertainly. A familiar trait, no matter how much time’s passed. My eyes flick to the phone.
‘Um, hi – Rosie? It’s Andy. It’s uh, it’s been a while, huh?’ Awkward pause. ‘Listen, I’m – I’m sorry about your Mum, it must be…’ Another pause. ‘Shit. Look, I’d really like to see you – call me, okay? No pressure. Just as friends. Okay? You know I’m always here if…you know where I am. Bye.’
Wow. Andy. He’s right, it has been a long time.
‘You should call him, you know.’
I twist to see Aunt Sarah in the doorway. Is it that time already? Sarah works long hours at the local hospital, but that hasn’t stopped her checking up on me whenever she can – to make sure I haven’t slit my wrists or burned the house down or anything.
I shrug. ‘Maybe.’ No. I think. No, no, no.
‘And why not?’ she leans, accusatorially in the doorframe.
‘I didn’t say no, I said maybe,’ I protest.
‘Same thing,’ she replies. ‘I know you.’
It’s true, she does. She’s known me my whole life – literally. I was my mother’s last hope for a child, at the age of forty-two – the miracle baby – and Sarah was the midwife who delivered me that night. The night my father never came back.
She’s not really my aunt, or even a relative at all, but she’s Mum’s best friend and our next-door neighbour, and she’s been there at every major event of our lives. Our guardian angel – younger than Mum, but older and wiser than me – a fact I’m never allowed to forget.
‘Seriously, Rosie, you should go out, see people – enjoy the snow! God knows it won’t last long!’
‘I’m fine,’ I tell her.
‘I know you are, sweetie... but it would be good for you, you know?’
I hate it when people tell me what’s good for me – have a nice cup of tea, it’ll make you feel better. Go on, Rosie, have a good cry – it’s good for you. Yeah, cos that’ll bring my mother back.
I get up and cross to the stereo.
‘Look, Rosie, this isn’t easy for any of us, you know?’ Sarah sighs, smoothing a hand over her frazzled ponytail. ‘But you shouldn’t hide away like this – it’s Christmas Eve. You should be with people – family. I know you’re going to your Nana’s tomorrow, but she’d loveto have you to stay with her – not just for the holidays—’
I flick through the noisy radio stations.
‘Rosie…’
I can see Sarah’s reflection in the glass cabinet. She looks tired, drained – and old. Sarah’s never been old. But I don’t care. How can she be like the rest of them? Patronising and clichéd and telling me what to do? I turn the volume up high, and a choir belts out “Joy to the World”.
‘Rosie!’ she battles with the racket. ‘Rosie, turn it down!’
‘I don’t like that one either!’ I yell back. ‘How’s this?!’ “Rockin’ around the Christmas Tree” replaces the choir. I turn the volume higher. “Have a happy ho-o-liday!”
‘ROSIE! Turn it down!!’
‘What?!’ I yell back, cupping my hand to my ear. Maybe now she’ll know how it feels.
‘ROSALIND KENNING, YOU LISTEN TO ME!!’ Sarah yells, and I flick the radio off, her voice echoing in the sudden silence as I turn round. She is flushed and breathless, the light from the hallway behind her showing up every frizzed hair like a frenzied halo.
‘I’ve come to a decision,’ I say. Calmly, rationally. ‘I need to know.’ I take a deep breath. ‘I need to know if I’ve got Huntington’s.’
There it is. Out in the open.
The colour in Sarah’s cheeks melts away, leaving her pale and serious. ‘Rosie…’
‘I’ve made up my mind.’ I say, swallowing hard. ‘I can’t live like this, not knowing. I need to know if I’m going to get it too, if I’m going to…’ The words stick in my throat. ‘I need to know the truth.’
‘Rosie,’ Sarah swallows, steps closer. ‘You have to think about this, take some time…’
‘I have.’ I round on her. ‘Don’t you think I have?!’
‘Look, I know that with your mum gone everything’s strange and scary—’
‘You don’t know anything!’ I scream at her, my legs trembling. I’ve never shouted at Sarah, never yelled, never…but suddenly all the feelings that have been bottled up for too long gush out in one big mess. ‘You don’t know,’ I shake my head. ‘You don’t – you can’t…’ I look away.
Sarah sighs. ‘All I’m saying is that it’s too soon to be making choices like this, to take the test – ’
‘Too soon?! When do you want me to find out? When I’ve got kids too? I’m not a child anymore, Sarah – I’m nearly eighteen!’
‘I know, Rosie, but this is a life-changing decision we’re talking about here. There’s no cure, and once you know, you can’t go back...’
‘I can’t go back anyway!’ I choke on the words. ‘And no, actually. It’s not a life-changing decision because nothing actually changes, does it? It’s already decided whether I live or die – I’d just quite like to know which it’s going to be, okay?’
Sarah looks beaten, hopeless.
‘What kind of a life can I have otherwise?’ I ask quietly. ‘Not knowing? Not knowing if one day I’ll end up like—’
‘You won’t.’
‘Sarah, it’s hereditary,’ I sigh. ‘It hangs on the toss of a coin.’
‘No,’ she takes my shoulders gently, her eyes so sad. ‘Rosie, sweetheart, you don’t have Huntington’s. You don’t need the test.’
‘I’m not asking your permission, Sarah.’ I tell her quietly. ‘I’ve got an appointment at the clinic on Wednesday, and – ’
‘No,’ she says. ‘You don’t understand.’ She takes a deep breath. ‘Rosie, you don’t have the disease.’
‘Sarah,’ I say gently, as if to a child. ‘There’s a fifty per cent chance that I do – it’s a genetic fact.’
‘That’s what I mean.’ Sarah says slowly, not looking at me. ‘There is no chance.’
‘I – ’ I blink. ‘ – I don’t understand...’
‘Rosie...’ She sighs, rubs her hand over her brow. ‘Oh, God!’
I don’t move. Don’t dare breathe.
‘Rosie, you don’t have the disease – you can’t possibly, because – ’ Desperate pause. Swallow. Breath. ‘– Because Trudie wasn’t your mother.’
Her eyes meet mine at last and I flick mine away.
There’s a red stain on the carpet by the door, where Mum spilled red wine as she was handing it round one New Year’s Eve. She’d said she was just a bit tipsy, but I knew she hadn’t had a drop to drink all night.
Now it looks like blood
‘Rosie, I’ve wanted to tell you for such a long time, especially with Trudie getting worse and worse – to put your mind at rest, give you one less thing to worry about, and because you deserved – deserve– to know. But I couldn’t while she was alive, don’t you see? You were everything to her.’
I start tugging at my sweater. It’s hot again. Insufferably hot.
‘God, this is awful! I’m so sorry, sweetie – this isn’t how I wanted to tell you at all.But if you take the test they might compare your DNA, and I just…I didn’t want you to find out from someone else.I had to tell you – to explain…’ she trails off. ‘Rosie?’ I blink hard, trying to concentrate, focus.
She sighs. ‘Rosie, you had to know – you have to know – because it’s the only way you can move on with your life– your own long and healthy life!’
The room whirls faster and faster.
‘I don’t understand.’
Another sigh. The same gentle voice. ‘Rosie, you haven’t inherited the disease. She wasn’t your mother – ’
‘NO!’ I scream, the loudness of my voice startling me. ‘She was – she is!’
‘Rosie – ’ Sarah reaches for me.
‘No! You were there!’ I accuse, wrenching away. ‘You were there when I was born, you delivered me – how can you…?’ I gasp for breath.
She nods. That weak smile again.
‘Yes, yes, I was, which is why I know that Trudie wasn’t—’
‘Stop it! Stop lying to me!’ I yell. ‘This is sick! This is just some sick way to stop me taking the test – admit it!’ My eyes search hers – desperate for some sign that it’s not true, that she’s made it all up – but she just looks sad, tired.
I feel faint, giddy. She was! She was my mother. Wasn’t she? I close my eyes. She would have told me – she would have told me if I was adopted. Wouldn’t she…?
‘Rosie, sit down, you’re swaying. Let’s talk about this – please, let me explain...’ Sarah reaches out, guiding, helpful.
I swipe her away and run, just run. Out of the back door, through the gate, the woods, hurtling down the hill towards the fields, yanking off the sweaters and sprinting blindly through the snow. I can’t breathe. The flakes swirl faster and faster, dancing and whirling and twirling with my lost mother in my mind.
I’ve lost her, and she wasn’t even mine.
The words tumble clumsily into the dance, cold and hard and heavy.
She wasn’t even my mother to lose.

The Childe by C.A. Kunz Blog Tour

The Childe by C.A. Kunz

Cat Colvin
Average Teenager?
Or Something Else Entirely?

Cat Colvin is pretty much your typical run-of-the-mill teenager. Sure, she’s taller than most girls, has a mane of fiery red hair that’s impossible to tame, is left-handed, and her eyes are two different colors, but that’s where the differences end . . . unless you include the minor detail of her slow transformation into a Childe.

High school can definitely be challenging, and for Cat it’s no different. This is especially true when she’s faced with the daunting task of trying to hide her budding Childe traits as they begin to reveal themselves at the most inopportune times. To make matters worse, her family is oddly dead set against Ryan, the boy she grows to like. But everyone has their secrets: is Ryan really what he seems to be, and what is Cat’s family not telling her?

The Childe is the first book in this coming-of-age fantasy series which follows Cat's life through the twists and turns toward finding out whom and what she really is. Come and take the plunge with Cat into a world filled with mystery, biting humor, and the paranormal.

My Review: HOLY COW!!! This book is EPIC! I could not put this book down because I was so caught up in Cat's World that it was hard to put down. I also really LOVE the fact that this book was written by a mother and son is Incredible!

So without further ado here is my review.......

We all know what it is like to start high school. Well Cat and her friends are beginning their Freshman year at high school and are nervous. They are not really sure what to expect but they are ready to start a new era and conquer the fears of being a Freshman.

What I really enjoyed was the way the story went as things started to unfold and secrets were uncovered the characters learned how to hold their own. This story grips you and you can not put this books down. If you like Paranormal and bad boy and bad girl books this is THE BOOK FOR YOU! There is so much action going on that you feel like you are in the story.

The descriptions in this book are so vivid and well done as you are reading you get a sense for everything that is going on. The art work in this book is kick butt as well. As I was reading and looking at the pictures I could see myself in this world that Carol and Adam have created.

I am Patiently waiting for book two and when it comes out I will be there waiting for my copy! Want a great read and a FANTASTIC paranormal world? Well what are you waiting for come along on the best Paranormal ride of your life!

Young Adult Faeries & Fantasy Giveaway Hop

Young Adult Faeries & Fantasy Giveaway Hop runs from Friday, January 6th to Thursday, January 12th

 Hosted by I Am A Reader, Not A Writer @  http://iamareadernotawriter.blogspot.com

 Hosted by  vvb32 reads @  http://vvb32reads.blogspot.com/

I am so happy to be a part of this blog tour. I love Fantasy books and Faerie books. As part of this blog tour I am giving away five books.

Sorry this is on for The United States only because shipping has gone up.

So without further ado here are the books and blurbs I am giving away

Love conquers all, so they say. But can Cupid’s arrow pierce the hearts of the living and the dead—or rather, the undead? Can a proper young Victorian lady find true love in the arms of a dashing zombie?

The year is 2195. The place is New Victoria—a high-tech nation modeled on the manners, mores, and fashions of an antique era. A teenager in high society, Nora Dearly is far more interested in military history and her country’s political unrest than in tea parties and debutante balls. But after her beloved parents die, Nora is left at the mercy of her domineering aunt, a social-climbing spendthrift who has squandered the family fortune and now plans to marry her niece off for money. For Nora, no fate could be more horrible—until she’s nearly kidnapped by an army of walking corpses.

But fate is just getting started with Nora. Catapulted from her world of drawing-room civility, she’s suddenly gunning down ravenous zombies alongside mysterious black-clad commandos and confronting “The Laz,” a fatal virus that raises the dead—and hell along with them. Hardly ideal circumstances. Then Nora meets Bram Griswold, a young soldier who is brave, handsome, noble . . . and dead. But as is the case with the rest of his special undead unit, luck and modern science have enabled Bram to hold on to his mind, his manners, and his body parts. And when his bond of trust with Nora turns to tenderness, there’s no turning back. Eventually, they know, the disease will win, separating the star-crossed lovers forever. But until then, beating or not, their hearts will have what they desire.

In Dearly, Departed, romance meets walking-dead thriller, spawning a madly imaginative novel of rip-roaring adventure, spine-tingling suspense, and macabre comedy that forever redefines the concept of undying love.

In the violent country of Ludania, the classes are strictly divided by the language they speak. The smallest transgression, like looking a member of a higher class in the eye while they are speaking their native tongue, results in immediate execution. Seventeen-year-old Charlaina has always been able to understand the languages of all classes, and she's spent her life trying to hide her secret. The only place she can really be free is the drug-fueled underground clubs where people go to shake off the oppressive rules of the world they live in. It's there that she meets a beautiful and mysterious boy named Max who speaks a language she's never heard before . . . and her secret is almost exposed.

Charlie is intensely attracted to Max, even though she can't be sure where his real loyalties lie. As the emergency drills give way to real crisis and the violence escalates, it becomes clear that Charlie is the key to something much bigger: her country's only chance for freedom from the terrible power of a deadly regime.

On the night of Skye's seventeenth birthday, she meets two enigmatic strangers. Complete opposites;like fire and ice;Asher is dark and wild, while Devin is fair and aloof. Their sudden appearance sends Skye's life into a tailspin. She has no idea what they want, or why they seem to follow her every move only that their presence coincides with a flurry of strange events. Soon she begins to doubt not just the identity of the two boys, but also the truth about her own past.

In the dead of a bitingly cold Colorado winter, Skye finds herself coming to terms with the impossible secret that threatens to shatter her world. Torn between Asher, who she can't help falling for, and Devin, who she can't stay away from, the consequences of Skye's choice will reach further than the three of them could ever imagine.

A fallen angel haunted by her past. Yearning for her immortal beloved. Forever searching for answers.Who will show her Mercy?

Mercy has lost herself. She can’t count how many times she’s “woken up” in a new body, and assumed a new life, only to move on again and again. During the day she survives in the human world on instinct and at night her dreams are haunted by him. Mercy’s heart would know him anywhere. But her memory refuses to cooperate.

But this time is different. When Mercy wakes up she meets Ryan, an eighteen year old reeling from the loss of his twin sister who was kidnapped two years ago. Everyone else has given up hope, but Ryan believes his sister is still alive. Using a power she doesn’t fully comprehend, Mercy realizes that Ryan is right. His sister is alive and together they can find her. For the first time since she can remember, Mercy has a purpose; she can help. So she doesn’t understand why the man in her dreams cautions her not to interfere. But as Ryan and Mercy come closer to solving the dark mystery of his sister’s disappearance, danger looms just one step behind.

Will Mercy be able to harness her true self and extraordinary power in time?

The first in a dazzling new series, Mercy masterfully weaves romance, mystery and the supernatural into a spell-binding tale.

MacKayla Lane’s life is good. She has great friends, a decent job, and a car that breaks down only every other week or so. In other words, she’s your perfectly ordinary twenty-first-century woman. Or so she thinks…until something extraordinary happens.

When her sister is murdered, leaving a single clue to her death–a cryptic message on Mac’s cell phone–Mac journeys to Ireland in search of answers. The quest to find her sister’s killer draws her into a shadowy realm where nothing is as it seems, where good and evil wear the same treacherously seductive mask. She is soon faced with an even greater challenge: staying alive long enough to learn how to handle a power she had no idea she possessed–a gift that allows her to see beyond the world of man, into the dangerous realm of the Fae….

As Mac delves deeper into the mystery of her sister’s death, her every move is shadowed by the dark, mysterious Jericho, a man with no past and only mockery for a future. As she begins to close in on the truth, the ruthless Vlane–an alpha Fae who makes sex an addiction for human women–closes in on her. And as the boundary between worlds begins to crumble, Mac’s true mission becomes clear: find the elusive Sinsar Dubh before someone else claims the all-powerful Dark Book–because whoever gets to it first holds nothing less than complete control of the very fabric of both worlds in their hands….

When Destiny Knocks Review

When Destiny Knocks (Destiny Saga, #1)

16 year old Karlie has had a pretty normal life... But when her Mom dies she is force to move over 1,000 miles away to live with her Dad. That's when things start getting weird.

She can't explain the earthquakes that nobody else feels, or why she no longer sleeps. But most of all she doesn't know why she trusts Shane so much, even though his Dad wants her dead.
Suddenly, Karlie's normal life is turned upside down and she enters a world she never dreamed could really exist.

My Review.......

When Destiny Knocks is a book you will not be able to put down. It grabs you and takes you on a ride you can not stop until the end and then when it does end you start screaming for more!

Heather has created a world where all creatures exsist and have one goal in mind and that goal is to kill the choosen one. But what happens when the choosen one does not know their true identity and when they do find out they have a hard time dealing with it.

This story is about a girl named Karlie who lives in New York with her mother. Her mother dies and she is sent to live with her father who she has no relationship with. Plus to make matters worse she has to move to the middle of no where Arkansas to start a new life and make new friends and worst of all she has to start a new school. What can be worse than that you say, well you will have to read the book to find out! hehehe no spoilers from me but I will give you some back ground on some pretty awesome characters in the story that all have one goal and that is to save the choosen one from being killed before they turn 17.

Karlie is a laid back girl who starts school on the first day and makes friends quickly. She is learning her way around school when she gets to her PE class and meets the most georgous guy in the school Shane. She soon finds out that no one speaks to Shane because he is considered a loner but Karlie decides she is going to talk to him and strike up a friendship. They soon become friends but Karlie feels like there is something not quite right with him. As their friendship grows she finds herself really liking him and wanting to spend more time together and wanting to really kiss him.

Then Karlie meets Mr Normal Alex and she is thrown for a loop because she feels something for Alex but she loves Shane. Alex is normal and home schooled and takes her bowling. Karlie craves for the normal attention because her friends seem to like Alex over Shane. The thing is who will be right for Karlie? Will it be bad boy Shane or Mr Normal Alex?

Karlie soon realizes that she can not stay away from Shane and she is not sure why so she decides to ask him. Shane isn't giving away any information other than the fact that he does like her and he wants to be with her. Karlie and Shane soon see weird things happening and Karlie is getting a little annoyed with her new best friends at school because they try and keep her away from Shane. What is a girl to do when she is in love for the first time and people are trying to keep them apart? Why are there so many weird things happening to her and around her? Why are her friends sticking by her and never allowing her to do anything?
Come along for a ride of a life time with Jessica, Savannah, Jarrod, and Mark. Will they be able to save Karlie from whatever is out there lurking in the dark? Will they think she is crazy? Or will they help her out in the end?

Preservation by Rachael Wade 2012 New Book Release

Let's give it up for my girl Rachael Wade! She has taken the YA genre by storm with her debut of Amaranth. She is now doing the finishing touches for the second book in this series and it will be released in March 2012.

As her next project she has written an adult contemporary romance and boy oh boy just look at that cover because it looks PHENOMENAL! This is at the top of my must read ASAP pile!

So without further ado here is a sneak peak in the world of Preservation.......

Coming May 25, 2012:

Preservation, an adult contemporary romance/ realistic fiction novel by Rachael Wade, author of the paranormal romance series, The Resistance Trilogy. Add it to your Goodreads to-read shelf today!

Fear is sabotage’s sweetest weapon.

Kate has no time for meaningless romantic charades, and definitely no time for hot college professors who are full of themselves and smitten with her. Constantly battling eviction notices, tuition she can’t afford, and a sick, dependent mother, the last thing she needs is to be distracted with someone else’s complicated baggage.

When she stumbles into Ryan Campbell’s creative writing class, he is only “Mr. Campbell” to her, until Ryan finds himself captivated by her writing and she is forced to face their mutual attraction. His cocky know-it-all syndrome is enough to send her running in the other direction, and his posse of female admirers and playboy reputation are enough to squander any odds in her favor.

But underneath Ryan’s abrasive facade is something to behold, and she can’t stay away for long. Ryan and Kate must decide who they’re willing to become and fight against their former selves if they want to make things work. That’s if academia, vicious vixens, old skeletons, and their own mastery at self-destruction don’t pummel their efforts first.

Preservation Sneak Peek

That night, I made sure to arrive at the pool at my usual time. I didn’t want to stay a minute longer than normal, knowing Ryan would be showing up soon. The last thing I wanted was to get all flustered around him again like a total fool and feed his ego.

I did one final lap and ducked down to let the water rush over my head, slowly coming up for one more relaxing breath of air.

And there he was. Sitting on the ledge, looking over at me.
“Kate. Will you let me apologize for earlier today?”

“Ryan. You’re early.” I rolled my eyes and pulled myself up and out of the pool. As I stood to my feet, he slipped in.

“I didn’t mean to bite your head off like that. I’m sorry, really. I want to know what you came to talk to me about after class.”

I towel-dried my hair and began collecting my things, stuffing everything in my bag. Why not? Might as well tell him.

“I just thought I’d tell you that I’m going to be published.” I wrapped the towel around my torso, slinging my bag over my shoulder. “Not the piece you read, but something else. That’s it.”

“That’s it?” He flew out of the pool and lunged forward to hug me. “Congratulations! That’s really...well I’m not surprised. Your work is brilliant. It inspires me, actually.”

I jutted my head back, did a double take. “What? Inspires you?”

He put his hands on his hips and stared at me with bright, flickering eyes. They were on fire. “Yes, me.” He tapped my shoulder. “Just because I’m a professor doesn’t mean my students’ work can’t inspire me.”

I narrowed my eyes then glanced around, trying to understand his instant mood shift. His smile was blinding, wide and enthusiastic—unlike anything I’d ever seen.

“You look thoroughly disturbed.” He chuckled and crossed his arms. Wet. Dripping wet.

“You’re moody. I can’t figure you out, that’s all.” I let out an exasperated sigh. “One minute you’re really easygoing and nice to talk to, and the next...”

“I’m a total ass. Yes, it’s a part of my charm. You’ll have to forgive me.” He glanced down at his bare feet, sexy grin still intact. I refused to let my eyes wander to his tattoos. “I’m stubborn, get pissed if I can’t have my way, and I’m always guaranteed to make someone feel like shit at least once a day.” He shrugged. “But I admire and value good writing when I see it, and I don’t mean to treat my students that way. Especially you.” He held out his hand, waiting for me to shake. “Truce?” His hand hung in midair, the other perched on his hip.

Reluctantly, I slipped my palm into his and gently shook, noticing his gaze drift from my eyes to my lips. I stepped back. “You’re forgiven. And just for the record...you inspire me, too. That’s what I wanted to tell you this morning. You get this spark when you talk about my writing...well, writing in general. Your passion is inspiring. And sincere.” I nodded, tucking my hair behind my ear. “But if you’re an ass to me again, three strikes you’re out.” A small grin seized my lips.

He stood there, eyes soft, body wet, black ink calling my name. “Deal, Ms. Parker. So when and where is your work going to be published?”

“As far as I know, the spring issue of The Morning Theatric. It’s a drama-focused literary magazine.” The weight of my bag began cutting into my shoulder, and the temptation to lust after his body art was becoming unbearable. “But I better go; I’ll send you a copy when it’s published, okay?”

“All right,” he leisurely turned and slipped back into the pool. “I look forward to it.”

“See you around.”

“Hey, Kate!”

I stopped and turned to him.

“Come see me after class again next week. I have something you might be interested in. You won’t be able to resist.” He smirked and deadpanned me, biting his lip.
Holy hell.

“Oh? Okay, well we’ll see about that.” My eyebrows twitched in amusement but I worked to repress my own smirk, turning on my heel for the door. My instinct told me not to venture into his playful territory, but cue the Hallelujah chorus was all I could think.
