Mandyireadindie Presents Down 'N' Derby (Love and Skate #3) by Lila Felix Blog Tour Stop

Maddox is running.

By accident, he discovered long ago that he was adopted as a baby and his need to find his biological father has consumed him ever since. Now, on a road trip, determined to find his father and his sanity, and armed with locations and his cousin, Nixon, to help him, maybe he can find the answers he’s been searching for. With nothing but a suitcase and a wad of cash to get him there, lead after lead takes him further from home.

But he’ll find much more than he intended.

He finds Storey, a pint sized pin-up model who has learned painful lessons about guys. Her wounds run deep, but so do his. She knows what she wants, but will she recognize it when it’s right in front of her?

Maddox can’t touch anyone without feeling like his skin is crawling, but just maybe his instinct to protect this amazing girl will supersede his own hang-ups.

If he can brush her skin and start to feel alive inside...everything will change.
My Review

5 of 5 Maddox Black!

First I have to say that Lila Felix is one hot smoking writer. From the very first book I read of hers I cannot seem to put them down. Whenever I read one of her books I have to have me time and that means NO ONE better bother me or there will be hell to pay! The kids get take out and their father has to watch them because I start to read and shut the world out around me. Lila has this way that captivates you and keeps you reading and wanting more and more. With the love and skate series this is one series I will read and re-read for years to come. We are introduced to the Black Family and they are the best family anyone could ask for. We met Owen in Love and Skate and then Falcon in How It Rolls and now we meet Maddox oh my Maddox be still my heart.

Maddox Black found out he was not really a Black by accident. He has always known something was wrong with him because he did not like to be touched. He would get the willy's when someone touched him and he never felt whole. So when he found out that his mom and dad are really his aunt and uncle he wants answers. But the only way to get answers he feels is to take off on a road trip and find his father who abandoned him when he was born. So Maddox enlists the help of his cousin Nixon oh Nixon I will get back to him later but Maddox and Nixon go off in the middle of the night in search of his biological father. Maddox does not tell his family what he is doing but he does tell Reed which leaves Reed in a very bad situation with her fiance Falcon.

So Maddox and Nixon set off on their road trip and along the way they stop and met a girl that will forever change Maddox. Remember what I said about Maddox not liking to be touched and keeping himself guarded well he will meet someone who will change all that. When Maddox and Nixon meet Storey all they see is this little petite girl full of life and fire and something in Maddox stirs to life. He has never met someone who has made him feel this way but he knows that there is more to Storey. Storey is a model but she is not your average model that is stuck up and full of herself. No she is down to earth and full of life. She is leery of Maddox because she has been hurt before by guys but when she opens up to Maddox what the two of them find in each other is a rare love that will grip them both and consume them.

Can two broken souls find love? Can Maddox let the past go and move on to a future he deserves? Can Storey open her heart up and let Maddox in? This is a love story that will grip your heart and have you laughing and crying all at the same time. It never ceases to amaze me how Lila can bring those emotions out of me when reading one of her books. And remember I said later on Nixon well I hope to sweet Jesus that Lila does a book about Nixon! Lord I love that boy he is such an amazing character that loves his cousin and is loyal to the end.
Excerpt #3

He got up after that but turned around after a few steps later and gave me one last piece of his pitiful mind. “You’re cute all right, but damn, what a wench.”

I was prepared to shrug him off. I was usually called the ice queen or frosty by guys and this was just one more instance where I could care less what he thought of me. But Suntan had a different plan. He stood up as the pig was passing and said something in a voice so low and deep that I couldn’t hear the words. But whatever it was Pig didn’t like it one bit. He shoved Suntan back a few steps and I could tell he let that happen. If he wanted to, he wouldn’t have moved one inch. The other guy with him now stood up behind him, jeering him on. “Kick his ass, Maddox.”

“Don’t touch me again and you should apologize to the lady. Where I come from we don’t call women that name—ever.”

The guy laughed and got closer to him, “I’ll talk to her any way I want to. This isn’t Hickville, this is California.”

Before I knew what was happening, Maddox, I now knew his name, swung the guy around, bolted him in a headlock and they were both storming towards me. I could feel my eyes grow to the size of silver dollars. What was he doing?

He made the guy come to a stop in front of me and then clipped the back of his knees with his foot which made Pig kneel in front of me. “I asked nicely,” Maddox said to him through clenched teeth, “Now I’m asking not nicely, apologize to the lady before you pass out.” He mumbled a sorry and I accepted, I think. I was so shocked I could hardly speak.
Despite the odds, Reed Wolfe is making it, by the skin of her teeth. Her dreams and aspirations will have to wait until she can get on her feet. Because right now she’s homeless and churning on a downward spiral.

Falcon Black is existing. Not living, not thriving, just jutting along a path. But when he finds Reed, he can’t resist the urge to help her, lighten her load. But Falcon tends to go overboard, over the line, crossing boundaries he never thought he would and risking her trust in the process.

Can she accept his love or will it end up smothering her?

My Review

5 of 5 Falcon Black!

How It Rolls is the second book in the love and skate series. Lila Felix has done it again and again with her clean swoon worthy men. Don't get it twisted I love me a bad boy with rough edges but I love me some Lila Felix boys. These boys need to be cloned and bottled up to sell so we can have some heart warming guys in our corner. How it Rolls is the story of Falcon Black. Lord I love me some Falcon from Love and Skate because he was Nellie's rock when Owen started acting up. Falcon was there for her and never left her side. Now reading about him and seeing the cover you think no way this guy can not have a heart of gold but yes lord have mercy he does and when he loves you he really loves you with no strings attached but just open and genuine love.

Falcon meets Reed and when he does he knows she is special and wants to help her out. She was a ward of the state and now she is homeless and heading in a downward spiral if she does not catch herself. She is trying very hard but once things go down hill they are very hard to catch up and go up hill but Reed will find out soon enough that when she has Falcon by her side she can do anything.

Falcon is just living day by day and helping his family out in the business. Yes he wears a suit with his Mohawk and tattoos for days but he is a great guy just living until Reed shows up in his life and he decides to help her. But as we read before Falcon goes all out and sometimes over steps his boundaries for the ones he loves. Can he and Reed survive this? Reed loves how Falcon is a natural caretaker but will he go to far for Reed?

This one tore at my heart because Falcon is every girls fantasy man. He is loving and caring and will do anything to keep his family and friends safe but what happens when he over steps those boundaries? Can Reed and he get past them? Will Reed's secrets destroy their relationship or will it make it stronger? This is such a must read series that will have you on the edge of your seat you will be wishing and wanting more from Lila. For me she can't write fast enough!
On the rink she’s tough, she’s a leader, she’s fast and she’s the epitome of a rebellious girl. But Nellie’s been hurt, only once, but it was enough to make her look at life through different eyes and off the rink she’s a timid girl who loves with no pretenses.

A long time ago Owen Black was betrayed by the girl he thought he loved and the guy he called his best friend. The anguish set off a domino effect of negativity in his life and he never has fully recovered. He meets Nellie Forrester and thinks he can let it go for her.

But how can you love someone when the wounds from your past are still wide open?

My Review

5 of 5 Owen Black!

Where to start with this review????? Man can I just first start by saying that Lila Felix has an incredible knack for writing! She writes these incredible stories with these kick butt girls and these swoon worthy bad boys. Lord Love and Skate had me on a roller coaster of a ride. I was laughing one minute then crying the next.

Have you ever loved someone so hard and given your all for them to turn around and rip your heart out and stomp on it? Have you ever had a best friend betray you by dating your ex? Well if you have ever experienced that this book is for you. This story is about love, loss, and finding oneself. It is about finding true love in the midst of all the doubts and hurts and anger that has consumed your heart.

Nellie is in college starting a new life. She is enjoying college as well as her roller derbying with her team. She avoids her family and close relationships because she had her heart torn out and she was humiliated by the two people she trusted. That is until she sees a guy in one of her classes and she wants to get to know him better. When she is finally introduced to this mysterious class mate she finds out his name is Owen Black. Owen is GORGEOUS and full of tattoos and piercings and Nellie is instantly drawn to him. But Nellie knows that bad boys are just what they are and that is her red flag to stay away from Owen.

Owen is enjoying his time in college. He just wants to go to classes and graduate and start his new life as a Marine Biologist. He had a horrible experience with a girl he loved and an ex-best friend that he avoids partying and drinking and relationships. That is until he meets Nellie with her blue hair looking all sexy. He can't get his mind off of her and needs to find out her name but every time he tries to she disappears. So whe they are finally introduced Owen has made up his mind that he wants her and he is ready to have that relationship and closeness he craves.

The funny thing about old wounds is when you try and suppress them it never fails that the ugly old feelings come back to haunt you. They come to the surface when you least expect it. For Owen and Nellie they will love hard but Owen's insecurities and hurts come to the forefront of their relationship and try it. Will they make it? Will they break it? Will Owen open up to Nellie? Will Nellie love Owen? This story made me laugh and cry and the things the two went through were real and the outcome was well worth it!

About Lila Felix
About me?

I am a stay at home mom from the South and wife to the most giving and hard working husband ever. I love to cook and try out new recipes even if they don't always turn out like I want them to. I refer to my kids lovingly as the Three Stooges as they are constantly coming up with new ways to reek havoc in the house. Most recently that included putting a rubberband on the kitchen sink sprayer so it would douse me when I did the dishes. I love to go to roller derby bouts and read in my spare time. I write mostly at night when the house is silent and I can sneak cookies without having to share!

Nice reviews! This series sounds great. I'm going to recommend to my sister as well because she's on our regional roller derby team, the Appalachian Hell Betties...I think she might get into these! Thanks for sharing :)
